MMA Fighter Mike Brown Rhonda G. June 1, 2015 Fighters, Mike Brown Michael Thomas “Mike” Brown is a Mixed Martial Artist that currently fights in the UFC in the featherweight division. Mike is a WEC Featherweight Champion. He also fought with DEEP, which is a Japanese promotional company. Mike started wrestling while he was attending Bonny Eagle High School in Maine where he grew up. He won a state championship; then he started attending the Norwich University College where he continued to wrestle. Coach Rich Hasenfus said, “Mike was the strongest wrestlers and the smartest athletes at Norwich University”. Mike made his WEC debut with a fight against Jeff Curran. Mike won that fight with a unanimous decision. WEC merged with UFC, and Brown made his first UFC debut fight against Diego Nunes in 2011, but he lost this fight with a split decision. Mike Thomas Brown has twenty-six wins and nine losses. He was forced out of a fight due to an injury in 2014. Mike said he would probably not fight again, but he hasn’t announced his retirement. Mike is involved in several charities. Here are a few of his favorite charities: Sharks Foundation: The San Jose Sharks holds the annual “Hockey Fights Cancer” charity in October and November. The Sharks Foundation assists cancer patients and other charities. Mike Thomas Brown attended the event and together they raised over $20,000 for the charity organization. Fight Night Fundraiser: The Fight Night Fundraiser in Oakland, California raised money from the Fight Night where Mike Thomas Brown was featured along with other MMA fighters to raise money against violence. Mike doesn’t have just one hero. He said his heroes were his coach, family, and his friends. What kinds of jobs did Mike do before his fighting career started? Mike worked at Budweiser, but was fired, because he was taking a lot of time off work to train and fight. He also used to work as a produce clerk at a supermarket, pumped gas, cemetery, and a mover. Which one of these jobs was his worst job? The worst job he ever had was a mover, which is surprising, because it was an excellent way to train. Mike Thomas Brown trains twice a day in Coconut Creek, Florida at the American Top Team. He started training in 1995, and one fight led to another to get him where he is today.
