Johny Hendricks is a Mixed Martial Artists, who currently is the UFC Welterweight Champion. Johny started wrestling in high school where he was a three-time state champion at Edmond Memorial High School in Oklahoma. He went on to college at Oklahoma State University where he won the NCAA Division wresting title two years in a row. After college, Johny moved to Las Vegas where he started Mixed Martial Arts training, then made his Mixed Martial Arts debut in 2007. Two years later he made his UFC debut where he fought against Amir Sadollah, the current champion. Johny “Bigg Rigg” Hendricks won the UFC Welterweight Championship against Robbie Lawler on March 15, 2014.
Johny is proudly married to his wife, Christina. They have three beautiful daughters: Abri, 4, Adli, 2, and Avin, 1. When Johny first had to start changing his daughters diapers, he would tie a t-shirt around his face, and wear plastic gloves, but now he is a champ at it now. He watches Barbie movies with his daughters, and he hates the movies, but he does it. He play’s princess with them and even brushes their hair. He is a great father.
Johny is very close to his parents, Kevin, and Nancy. His father said, “He’s the original deal, and there isn’t a thing fake about him”. His father used to coach him with his wrestling, and his mom said, “He doesn’t fear many things”. When Johny wanted to learn how to swim, he just jumped into the deep end of the pool.
Johny “Bigg Rigg” Hendricks is your ordinary man and normal Texan. Johny loves to hunt, and boar is his favorite thing to hunt. He loves shooting and guns, and he enjoys eating dove that he has hunted. Just like most Texans, Johny drives a white pickup truck. He chews dip, and loves the quiet life that Texas offers him. Johny and his family live in Midlothian, Texas. One of his favorite places to eat is Kentucky Fried Chicken.
Where did Johny get the nickname ‘Bigg Rigg’? Johny drives an F350, and he pulled up in his F350 to practice, and a guy said, “That looks like a big rig”. His coach said Johny hit like a Mack truck, so the nickname, “Bigg Rigg” was created. He just added an extra ‘G’.
Johny prefers training in Texas over Las Vegas, because he likes the culture there, and his family and friends are in Texas. Everyone is nice and kind to you, which is important when you are training.
When Johny was asked what his perfect day was, Johny said working in his yard, because he likes to do manual labor. Johny may be a tough UFC fighter, but he is just your average, good ole’ Texas guy that enjoys the simple things in life.
