Ronda Rousey to Star in ‘Road House’ Reboot

Renowned UFC fighter Ronda Rousey continue to make headlines as she has landed a high-profile role in the MGM’s reboot of the 1980s cult classic “Road House.” Rousey is set to assume the role Patrick Swayze made famous. Latest report indicates that
MGM is currently meeting with screenwriters, and the production of the movie is set to begin in 2016.

This movie was first released back in1989; the original film starred Swayze, who acted as a bouncer hired to clean up one of the most disorderly and loudest bars in Missouri, The Double Deuce. Swayze’s character is put to the test when he attempts to shield the town from a fraudulent business person.

The movie became very popular and successful and still has reached cult status today.

Rousey welcomed the idea of starring in a remake, but wished to be respectful when engaging in the project. Credible sources indicate that Rousey recently reached out to Swayze’s widow, Lisa Niemi, and sought her blessings and Niemi was happy to grant her.

This project will be the biggest engagement in Rousey’s acting career. In the past, Rousey has starred in three projects that are “My Fight/Your Fight” at Paramount, “The Athena Project” at Warner Bros. and the STX action pic “Mile 22.

Rousey went to Twitter and wrote “I couldn’t be more grateful to have this opportunity to pay respect to the beloved Patrick Swayze… I promise to work incessantly to make sure this project is a tribute to his family and fans can be proud of,” she said.

Rousey is set to defend her UFC Women’s Bantamweight title on Nov. 14 at UFC 193 on in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
